Makem scroll for Buncrana expert

BUNCRANA-based
traditional song expert, Dr John Moulden, will be
honoured this Friday at the Tommy Makem Festival of
Song in Armagh city.
Belfast-born Dr Moulden is acknowledged
internationally for his books, collections, articles
and lectures on the Irish song tradition.
He is a founder member of the Belfast Folk Song
Club, the Ulster Folk Song Socieity and the Down
Coast Folk Society.
He has published widely in periodicals and journals
on many aspects of traditional song, and frequently
lectures in Ireland and abroad. |
A spokesman said Dr
Moulden: “The individual who works at the song
tradition is working at a most powerful and
sensitive level of a people’s expression of their
history and their experience of existence.
"Through his ongoing work, John Moulden is
bequeathing us all with a fresh understanding of
ourselves and we in the festival are proud to
acknowledge such an outstanding contribution."
Well known traditional singer, Michael Quinn from
Mullaghbawn, South Armagh added: |

“Without doubt, John
knows more about the Irish song tradition than
anybody alive. He is the number one authority and a
first class singer as well.” The festival will take
place from October 4 - October 6. |
