Historians awarded honorary
Masters degrees

TWO Co Donegal historians have been awarded honorary
Masters degrees by the National University of
Ireland at Galway.
Seán Beattie and Helen Meehan were recognised by the
university for their contribution to the study and
appreciation of local history.
Originally from Derry, Seán taught at second-level
school in Derry before becoming a guidance
counsellor at Carndonagh Community School. A member
of Donegal Historical Society and the Ulster Local
History Trust, he has published several books on
Donegal local history and has contributed articles
to journals and newspapers. |

Donegal-born Helen is a
retired primary school teacher and is recognised as
an expert in folklore, genealogy and local history
in Co Donegal. A published author, she is currently
president of the Donegal Historical Society and a
contributor to local TV and radio news.
Almost 4,000 students will graduate from NUI Galway
during the Autumn conferring ceremonies which are
currently underway in the city. |
