Pining for chips...
04.01.12
INISHOWEN householders
are being urged to dispose their real pine Christmas
trees for free at Council-approved sites.
People can recycle their festive ever-greens at
chipping points in Carndonagh Civic Amenity Centre;
Buncrana Town Council offices; Moville Council depot
and Newtown Council depot. |
Trees left at
unapproved sites will be considered illegal dumping.
Meanwhile, the local authority in Derry is today
urging people to be creative about their recyclable
left-overs.
The city's recycling officer, Julie Hannaway said:
“Decorations need not only be for Christmas as many
items such as ribbons, angels and candles can be
used throughout the year. |

Old Christmas cards can
make great gift cards, book marks or postcards and
can also make it on to next year’s dinner table as
place settings for guests at Christmas lunch.
“In addition, with many shops offering artificial
trees at reduced prices it is the perfect
opportunity to pick up next year’s tree at a bargain
price. Or, for those who are reluctant to make the
move from the real option, why not consider using a
potted tree which can replanted in your garden after
the festive period.”
People are also being encouraged not to waste food
in 2012. Figures show that an average household bins
food worth some €700 a year.
The 'Love Food, Hate Waste' campaign says people can
reduce waste by making shopping lists and planning
meals better. |
