RENTS in Co Donegal
have fallen by a quarter from the peak and now stand
at an average of €537 a month, according to
Daft.ie's latest survey.
Rents in the second quarter of this year were 2.5%
lower than a year previously.
Daft.ie economist and report author, Ronan Lyons,
said supply was becoming tighter.
“This is the third summer in a row where there were
fewer properties available to rent nationwide at any
one time. This is particularly the case in Dublin,
which means that some prospective tenants may find
that they have to live further out than expected.”
Meanwhile, with the CAO points out today, students
and their parents will be looking at the cost of
renting.
Rents in college cities fell steadily between 2007
and 2010, but have on average changed little since
then, according to the report.
Union of Students of Ireland (USI) president, John
Logue, said: “Rents are still down 25% from their
peak in 2007, meaning students now are at a
significant advantage compared to their boom-time
peers. Savings in rents provide a rare comfort to
families that are faced with ever-increasing costs.”
The Daft report shows that areas close to TCD, DIT,
DCU and NUI Galway have seen small increases in
rents in the last twelve months. Students in Tralee,
Waterford and Dundalk can expect savings up between
4% and 6% on average this year. |
