Foyle Rowing Club who won the mixed class Ireland to
Wales Celtic Challenge. |
The club, who have been
training hard all year for the challenge, "surpassed
their dreams" by winning the mixed class and
finishing third overall. Theirs was the first Irish
boat home behind two all-male Welsh teams.
"Conditions were very rough and we faced a stiff
north-easterly wind and almost all of the team
experienced sea-sickness," said team member, Don
McGinley. |

Team effort: Foyle Rowing Club from
Moville who won the mixed class in the 90-mile
Ireland to Wales Celtic Challenge. |
To illustrate the level
of the their achievement, only 12 of the 23 starters
finished the race.
The local oarsmen and women rowed for an hour at a
time and completed the race in a time of 20 hours
and 34 minutes.
When they arrived in Aberystwyth, the rowers - in
their Celtic longboat, RIB and support boat, proudly
flew the Irish and Donegal flags.
Moville and surrounding areas are rightly proud of
their local rowers and their fantastic win which Dr
McGinley described as a true "team effort". |
