INISHOWEN students
awaiting their Leaving Cert results will have access
to a telephone helpline organised by Letterkenny
Youth Information Centre.
Staff at the centre, which is managed by the Donegal
Youth Service, will also be available on August 15
and the following days from 10am-6pm daily for young
people and parents to to to with queries that may
arise following students receiving their results.
The Youth Information Centre will be able to give
young people details on how to calculate points, how
to go about having papers re-checked, how to go
about accepting an offer from your college, or how
to access other training courses.
Youth information officer, Martin Keeney, says
students should take their time deciding what they
want to do. “If you don’t get the results you want
it is not the end of the world. You could repeat,
take on a Post Leaving Certificate course, access
other courses or find a career path through a state
training agency. We have information available on
all these options so feel free to come in and have a
talk to one of the staff or phone us in the centre,"
he said.
Meanwhile, a 65-page booklet produced by the
Roscommon Youth Information Centre, entitled “Flying
the Coop”, is also currently available through the
Youth Information Centre, which is full of advice on
areas including tenants rights, health, finances and
useful contacts and advice for those going on to
study in the Republic of Ireland., Northern Ireland
or the UK.
The Youth Information Centre will also be holding a
Flying the Coop workshop on August 23rd in
Letterkenny YIC at 7pm for young people and parents
of those who will be leaving home for the first
time, with advice on managing finances, tenants
rights, how to make the most of college and how to
stay safe.
The number to call for the Leaving Cert results
helpline is 07491 29640. The Youth Information
Centre is located at 16-18 Port Road or you can even
email your query to
