Championship warm-up
in Clonmany this Sunday
INISHOWEN'S elite Tug of War team are in 'pull
position' for honours at next month's World
Championships in Scotland.
The peninsula boasts no fewer than four top class
teams who will be challenging for medals at the
event which runs in Perth from February 23-26. The
teams hail from Carndonagh, Clonmany (teams A&B) and
Cockhill. They are vying to take medals in all four
men’s senior categories: 560kg, 600kg, 640kg and
680kg. |

Other Irish teams from
Louth, Cavan, Down and Armagh will also compete.
The Donegal teams are up there with the best in the
world with Clonmany B winning gold in Italy in 2008,
Clonmany A winning silver in 2010 and Cockhill also
winning the 560kg bronze that year. The local teams
also enjoyed a fair bit of success at last year’s
national championships but were denied the gold
medals by Mountain View and St Pat's who both hail
from Co Louth. Clonmany B won four silver medals
while Clonmany A and Cockhill picked up two bronze
medals each.
As a warm up in preparation for next month's event,
the Irish management team is running a competition
in St Bridget's Hall, Clonmany, this Sunday, January
15, at 12.30pm. All proceeds will go towards Youth
2000 Ireland. |
