Andersons receive Book of
Condolence

The Mayor of Derry has
handed over a special Book of Condolence in memory
of the late Gerry Anderson to his wife Christine and
family, at a private presentation in the
Guildhall.
The popular BBC broadcaster passed away in August,
prompting a huge response from listeners and
colleagues. |

Cllr Brenda Stevenson
said thousands had recorded personal messages for
the Anderson family while the book was open in the
Guildhall. Three books were filled with signatures.
“(Gerry’s) irreverent style spanned the generations,
and his loss is still very much felt by everyone in
his beloved 'Stroke City' where he brought so much
laughter on a daily basis, partnered by his friend
and sidekick Seán Coyle.
“The thousands of signatures indicate the level of
esteem in which Gerry was held by his listeners, and
I know Christine has been overwhelmed by the public
outpouring of sympathy following Gerry’s death.
“Christine has asked me to convey her personal
thanks to the public for their support and messages
in recent months, and for respecting the family’s
privacy at such a difficult time. I know the
messages conveyed in these books will be a comfort
to her in treasuring Gerry’s memory in years to
come.”
A number of events have taken place in recent months
reflecting on the late broadcaster's contribution
including a special screening of his 'A City
Dreaming' feature documentary at the Foyle Film
Festival. He had described the film as his ‘love
letter’ to Derry. |
