€660,000 to repair Donegal coastal defences 12.03.14

DONEGAL County Council is to receive up to €662,000 from the Office of Public Works to repair existing coastal protection and flood defences damaged by the severe weather.
The fund will cover damage caused to coastal defence and flood prevention structures from December 13, 2013 to January 6, 2014.
Labour's Cllr Martin Farren stressed that the money is in addition to the €1.38 million already allocated for repairs to other structures including shore paths that occurred in the county during the first round of storms.
"Donegal’s repair schedule is well advanced so I welcome the fact that the OPW is adopting a practical approach to address the urgency of these works and to avoid any potential cash-flow issues would be considering advance funding requests of up to 80 per cent where a contract for works has been made," said Cllr Farren.

"Contracts for repairs to the shore paths in Moville and Greencastle went out to tender on March 10 and replies will be considered in the week beginning March 24 so I will be keeping the pressure on to have these areas restored as quickly as possible," he added.
