Rise and shine for Grianan
solstice
17.06.14
INISHOWEN'S summer
solstice celebrations will get underway this
Saturday with a dawn chorus, 800 feet above
sea-level, at the iconic Grianán Áiligh.
Co-organiser Mary McCallion said: “The Féile Grianán
Áiligh committee is inviting early birds throughout
Donegal and Derry to gather up the fort, at 3am, on
June 21 and take part in what promises to be a truly
magical event. |

“Our dawn chorus will
be led by the fantastic Cór an Ghrianán, under the
musical direction of Fahan’s Mura Canning. We will
also have traditional musicians there to greet the
dawn on the longest day of the year."
Mary added: “Bearing in mind the earliness of the
hour, Féile Grianán Áiligh is also providing park
and ride facilities. For a nominal two euro, real
live tweeters can leave their cars in our supervised
car park and take a shuttle bus up to the fort."
She said Féile Grianán Áiligh is hoping to build on
the success of last year’s dawn chorus and establish
a permanent, annual event. |
