Labour councillor,
Martin Farren, said the scheme would amount to an
average of €93,000 per school. He also urged local
contractors to submit a tender to carry out the
work.
“This first round of funding will allow schools to
carry out small and medium scale building works
across three categories of projects - gas,
electrical and mechanical," said Cllr Farren.
"It was decided to assess the gas, mechanical and
electrical applications first so that boards of
management could have sufficient time to invite
tenders for the works and I would encourage local
contractors to submit a tender."
The works will take place during the summer and will
result in a safer and warmer school environment for
local children when they return to class in
September.
"I commend Minister Quinn for finding the funding
for these vital projects and I look forward to the
announcement of the second round of the Summer Works
Scheme over the coming weeks, which will cover other
enhancement works and which will be of further
benefit to our schools and our local economy," added
the Moville-based councillor. |
