30,000 medical cards axed
02.05.14
AN INISHOWEN TD., has
expressed "alarm" at new figures showing further
cuts in discretionary medical cards in Donegal and
nationwide.
Figures released to Fianna Fáil reveal that the
Government has taken away more than 30,000
discretionary medical cards in the past three years.
The Oppposition party said the numbers of
discretionary medical cards had now fallen below the
50,000 mark for the first time. |
Deputy Charlie
McConalogue described it as “a disgraceful attack on
children and adult with serious illnesses and
disabilities". “The figures clearly show that
despite all their claims, Fine Gael and Labour are
still engaged in a covert cull of medical cards for
people with serious illnesses and severe
disabilities,” he said.
He said he is contacted "every single week" by
Donegal people who have "inexplicably lost their
medical cards or been refused a medical card". |

"It’s time for
Government representatives here in Donegal to wake
up to the reality of what’s happening to the sickest
people in our communities," the Gleneely-based
representative said.
"The Government cannot continue to take medical
cards from the people who need them most," he added. |
