"Our homes are crumbling around
us" - Mica

DONEGAL homeowners
distressed by the widespread cracking and crumbling
of their homes are invited to the first public
meeting on the issue in Burt next Monday.
The families, who allege their homes may have been
built with defective blocks, are seeking a redress
scheme from the Government similar to the Pyrite
Resolution scheme afforded homeowners in the Dublin
area.
The meeting has been organised by the Mica Action
Group, which is urging all homeowners affected or
those interested in finding out more about this
issue to attend the meeting. |

Damien McCauley who recently had to undertake
significant remedial works to his home. Many Donegal
homeowners are enduring the distressing appearance
of weblike cracks on the plaster and cornerstones of
their houses. |
A number of experts,
Donegal TDs and elected representatives will also be
in attendance to talk to those affected.
“This meeting will help us send a very strong
message to Dublin that this problem is widespread
and is having a devastating impact on the lives of
affected homeowners across the county," said Mica
Action Group chairman William McElhinney.
"The Government do not believe this to be a major
problem in Donegal and yet every day we are
receiving calls and emails from people who are very
worried that their homes are cracking and may also
be built with defective blocks.
"This public meeting is a great opportunity to
create awareness of what we have been doing and to
enable affected homeowners to talk about the
devastating impact this has had on their lives.
"It also offers us an opportunity to provide
information and to answer some of the key questions
and concerns that affected homeowners may have”
The meeting will also give the Mica Action Group an
opportunity to present some of the key findings from
its own survey of affected homes.
Political representatives, county councillors and
the Donegal County Manager have also been invited.
