Donegal postman delivers good
weather news
28.09.14
THE unseasonably fine
weather is set to last for up to three more weeks,
according to Donegal postman Michael Gallagher.
The amateur weatherman (65), who bases his
predictions on the behaviour of wildlife and nature,
said the warm and dry conditions would remain well
into October. |
"I see no signs of a
breakdown in the weather for the next two to three
weeks at least. The signs are looking up and it will
keep nice and warm," he said.
"There will be the odd drop of rain but that will do
no harm."
He said the unseasonably fine weather came in with
the new moon at the end of August with more
favourable signs showing in this month's lunar
activity.
He believes "the first quarter of a new moon follows
the same pattern of weather as the last quarter of
the old moon". |

Mr Gallagher, who has
written two folklore books on weather and natural
remedies, said another sign of fine weather ahead
was the "leisurely" behaviour of livestock and wild
animals around his native Bluestack mountains.
"The animals are going to the mountains and I'm very
encouraged by that. Once you see them climbing it's
a good sign - they won't go up the mountain if the
weather's going to turn bad.
"They know what's ahead of them and if it's about to
change they'll come back down again."
He said it was too early to predict what lay in
store for the winter ahead but said people could
look forward to the mild conditions continuing for
the coming weeks.
"I don't see any big change in the weather for the
next two to three weeks. You'll see a bit of frost
settling in but it will stay close and warm during
the day," he added.
Meanwhile, Met Eireann is forecasting temperatures
to stay in the double digits for the weekend with
next week bringing “mainly fair weather” despite
some rain. |
