GARDAÍ have issued a
warning to local business owners to tighten up
security after a spate of "determined" attacks by
burglars around Donegal in recent nights.
People are advised to ‘target harden’ their premises
to withstand "robust criminal attack".
Divisional crime prevention officer Sergeant Paul
Wallace said: "Commercial premises in various parts
of the county have been the target of criminals on
recent nights. These people are well-equipped and
are very determined to gain access to properties so
it follows that business persons are requested to
review their security arrangements and take steps
where necessary."
Sgt Wallace outlined a list of 'basic' deterrents
including intruder alarm systems installed by
established operators; a back-up signalling facility
to cover the event of a telephone line outage; CCTV
systems installed by "competent registered persons"
with hard drives secured with a back up facility.
Meanwhile, he said roof and attic spaces should also
have alarms and wire screening to prevent physical
access while roller shutters must be properly
secured. Other protections include vigilant staff
members, good lighting, securely mounted,
time-locked safes and good perimeter fencing. |
