Donegal men more likely to marry
again

DONEGAL men are more
likely to remarry after divorce than their female
counterparts, new census data shows.
The report also show a slight fall in the number of
families living in Donegal and a figure of 59
same-sex civil partnerships out of a national total
of 4,226.
There were 41,134 families recorded in Donegal on
census night last year - a drop of 220 families on
the 2011 figure.
The data released by the Central Statistics Office
today shows there are currently some 1,866 remarried
persons living in the county.
"(Donegal) males were much more likely to remarry
after divorce, with 42.2% doing so, compared to just
30.2% of females," the CSO said. |

The number of divorcees
increased by 413 to 3,362 since the last census and
accounted for 2.7% of those aged 15 and over.
Nationally, there were 1,218,370 families in the
State on Census Night, April 24, 2016 - an increase
of 3.3% since 2011.
The number of children per family nationally
remained unchanged at 1.38 children.
In Donegal, the number of people living alone
increased by 714 to 15,604 or 9.9% of all those
living private households.
More than 4-in-10 (6,576) of those living alone were
aged 65 and over with women accounting for 58.3% of
these. Census 2016 recorded a total national
population of 4,761,865. |
