Art competition to mark Dubai Duty Free Irish Open 07.05.18

CHILDREN across Ireland are being invited to create a golf-themed drawing or painting to mark the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in Inishowen this summer.
To celebrate the upcoming tournament hosted by the Rory Foundation, children nationwide are asked to "putt themselves in the picture" and win some fabulous prizes for their school and family.
The Irish Open will take place at Ballyliffin Golf Club from July 5-8. The art competition will give children a chance to see the prestigious Waterford Crystal trophy up close at their school, as well as a family pass and VIP tour at the tournament’s Pro Am on July 4.
The winning picture will also be put on display at the tournament for players and spectators to see and will be signed by host Rory McIlroy and defending Irish Open champion Jon Rahm.
The picture will then be auctioned to raise money for the winner’s school.
Putt Yourself in the Picture: Brian McIlroy of the Rory Foundation and primary school pupils Tiarna (6) and Gracey (9), brush up on their drawing skills with model golfer Sean (7) to launch a nationwide children’s competition that will give kids throughout Ireland a chance to win some fabulous prizes for their school and family.
To enter, schoolchildren of all ages – or their parents and teachers - can simply submit a golf-themed drawing or painting of anything that inspires them. It could be a drawing of their favourite golfer, the Irish Open trophy or a self-portrait of themselves on the golf course.
Entries should be sent to trophytour@duffyrafferty.com along with contact details clearly stating the child’s name, age, address and school.
Alternatively, photos of the artworks can be tweeted to @ddfirishopen or posted on the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Facebook page with the hashtags #ddfirishopen and #puttyourselfinthepicture.
Closing date for entries is Sunday, June 10, 2018 with the school visit taking place the week of June 18-22.
Brian McIlroy of the Rory Foundation said: “Every year we are absolutely amazed at the standard of entries sent to us by children from every corner of Ireland and I suspect this year will not disappoint. I know that Rory, like myself and the wider team, can’t wait to see the drawings!”
The eagerly-awaited golf competition will again be part of the successful Rolex Series with a massive prize fund of US$7 million up for grabs.
Tickets for the tournament are available at www.europeantour.com with a portion of all tickets sales going to the Rory Foundation. The charity was established by the Co Down sportsman in 2013 to help children’s charities across Ireland and around the world.
