The new Class B fire
appliance, which costs approximately €550,000, was
entirely funded by the Department of Housing, Local
Government and Heritage. This appliance is built on the
latest Scania P320 chassis and features an integrated
crew cab that can accommodate up to six firefighters. It
includes an onboard water tank and a Godiva Prima main
pump, which has the capacity to pump 3,000 litres of
water per minute at an average pressure of 10 bar.
Additionally, it is equipped with a Compressed Air Foam
System (CAFS), a 1,200 litres per minute portable pump,
several multi-stage ladders, various hoses and nozzles,
and a front-mounted electric winch.
The fire appliance replaces the 2002 Scania fire
appliance based at Carndonagh Fire Station. The decision
to allocate this new appliance to Carndonagh reflects a
clear commitment to supporting this community and
enhancing local emergency response capabilities.
Speaking at the event, Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Paul Canning
commended the Fire Brigade in Carndonagh for their
dedication and commitment to their service, saying: “We
are proud of our Fire Service and of your commitment to
excellence in all that you do, and it gives me great
pleasure to hand over this new state-of-the-art
appliance which will ensure that you are well equipped
to respond to any callout”. |
