Nieuw Statendam visits Lough Foyle 06.06.26

GREENCASTLE has hosted three cruise ships in consecutive days with the arrival of the Spirit of Discovery on Thursday 4th June, Oceania Marina on Friday 5th June and the Nieuw Statendam anchored off Greencastle today, Saturday 6th June 2026.

However the Spirit of Discovery arrived in Greencastle at approximately 6am on Thursday, only to depart again a couple of hours later around 10am.

The Nieuw Statendam, operated by Holland America Line, is a 99,500 ton Pinnacle-class ship which launched in 2018. It is the largest ship to ever visit Lough Foyle and brings the highest volume of passengers, at 2,666 people, the port has ever welcomed in a single day.

The Nieuw Statendam arrived in Lough Foyle at approximately 7:30am this morning from Killybegs and will be departing this evening for Glasgow.

The majority of the liners anchor at the tender port of Greencastle, with some smaller vessels berthing at Lisahally and Fort George in Derry city centre.
