Spraoi agus Spórt growth plans 13.05.26

SPRAOI agus Spórt in Carndonagh has announced plans to further expand its team as part of an ongoing period of sustained growth and development.

Formed by a small group of volunteers in 2010, the organisation grew steadily to a team of 100 people by 2025. CEO Helen Nolan says they aim to increase this further by the end of 2026, which is good for the community and the local economy. This expansion reflects both rising demand for its services and a continued commitment to delivering high-quality, community-led supports across the Inishowen Peninsula.

“Our development is rooted in responding to the evolving needs of the community," says Helen. “Since September we have expanded our management team across Innovation & Engagement, and our next step is to appoint a Manager for our Children, Family and Community Services. Our focus has always been on meeting real needs with services of the highest quality, and that is what drives our growth.”
The award-winning social enterprise also runs summer camps for children and plans for 2026 Summer Camps will be announced soon.
Operating from Carndonagh and working across Inishowen, Spraoi agus Spórt delivers a wide range of programmes supporting children, young people, families, and individuals with additional needs. These include community childcare, family supports, disability services, and inclusive recreational initiatives.

Gaeltacht Bursaries for Inishowen Students
Spraoi agus Spórt has also announced they will sponsor two €400 bursaries for students attending the Gaeltacht in Rann na Feirste this summer, in partnership with Feis Domhnaigh.

The bursaries will be awarded through a Comhrá Ginearálta competition organised as part of Feis Domhnaigh.

The competition is open to both primary and secondary school students. Entries close on May 23rd, 2026, and the competition will take place on the evening of June 12th, 2026.

Organisers are encouraging students from across the community to take part in what promises to be an enjoyable celebration of spoken Irish.

Further details on entry requirements and competition arrangements will be available through Feis Domhnaigh organisers and on Spraoi agus Spórt social media channels.
