Back to School cash for Inishowen families 23.06.10

PARENTS in Inishowen are being urged to apply early for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance.
The Government is making €82 million available this year to help eligible families with the cost of school uniforms ahead of the new school year in September.
Donegal North East T.D., Deputy Niall Blaney said the money would help eligible families on tight budgets.
“I know that the new school year can be a very pressurised time on family budgets and the Government is committed to helping families through these difficult times,“ said the Fianna Fáil deputy.
Around 160,000 families with over 310,000 children will benefit from the scheme nationally this year. Parents receive €200 for each eligible child aged between 2 and 11 years and €305 for each eligible child aged between 12 and 22 years.”
A person may qualify for payment if they are in receipt of a social welfare payment (including Family Income Supplement), or a HSE payment, are participating in an approved

employment scheme or attending a recognised education and training course and have household income at or below certain set levels. The weekly income limit for the allowance for parents with one child is now €563.60 for couples and €410.10 for those parenting alone.
Deputy Blaney said: “I’m delighted to see that the system for application has also been made easier this year. A mobile text service can be used to obtain an application form for the allowance. For an application form parents can text - FORM BTSCFA - to 51909 followed by your name and address.
“Applications can be made up to the end of September but I would encourage parents to apply early for the payment.” More information on the scheme and application forms are also available on www.welfare.ie .
