1,500 hotel beds needed
03.03.10
THE Inishowen tourism
industry was celebrating yesterday following
confirmation that Buncrana will host the Ulster
Irish Dancing Championships in 2011 and 2012.
The seaside town will welcome 2,000 dancers over
five days of competition in November of 2011 and
2012. Buncrana Mayor Lee Tedstone warmly welcomed
the development.
“This is a major coup, not just for Buncrana but all
of Inishowen,” he said.
“We’re going to need in excess of 1,500 hotel beds
for competitors and their supporters. I want to pay
tribute to the organising committee that has worked
hard to secure this event for Buncrana.”
The Town Council, Inishowen Inc, Inishowen Tourism
and Buncrana Chamber of Commerce all came together
to put in an application on behalf of Buncrana.
“The hard work in promoting Buncrana at Irish
dancing feiseanna over the next 18 months starts
now,” Cllr Tedstone concluded. “We have a fabulous
opportunity to put the town on the map and we have
more exciting plans too.”
