A National Car Testing
Centre will begin operating today in Inishowen after
a decade of lobbying for the service.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney visited the new NCT centre
yesterday when it opened for staff training. It will
undertake its first car tests when it opens to the
public today.
"It really has been a long road but very worthwhile
for all of us who have, or will have to present our
car for the NCT. There have been many false starts
but the facility is up and running now," said
Senator Keaveney.
"I am sure there may well be just as many people
passing and failing as in any other location
nationally, but the convenience of having a centre
in Inishowen will ease the experience for all users,
whether their cars pass first time or not.
"Letterkenny provided an excellent and comfortable
service. However the sheer mileage, and therefore
time implications, were tough for particularly those
who had a difficulty identified in their car and
therefore had to make more than one return journey.
"In wishing the new venture well within the
peninsula, I trust that the work that it does will
continue to keep the vehicles on our roads in the
safest of conditions." |
