Chef Brian serves up new book
06.10.10
COMMUNITY chef Brian
McDermott has added another ingredient to his
growing popularity with the launch of a new cookery
book.
Brian, Ireland's first 'community chef', will launch
his book, called 'Reunite with Food' at Caiseal Mara
hotel, Moville, next Monday.
The Burt-born, Moville-based, chef has been cooking
professionally for 17 years. He spent most of his
career working in his native Inishowen where he ran
his own award-winning restaurant, Finnegan’s.
He also cooked in places like Kealy’s Seafood Bar in
Greencastle and Harry’s in Bridgend. He played a
product development role at Kerry Food Global and
recently worked with Raymond Blanc at the
prestigious Michelin star restaurant - Le Manoir- in
Britain. |
“These have all been
fantastic and rewarding experiences for me but, at
the end of the day, I get the most satisfaction from
running cookery skills and nutrition projects at
local level, and working with the public at
demonstrations and events,” explained Brian.
He currently works with men and women in their own
communities, young people and school children, the
unemployed, ethnic groups, lone parent groups and
low income households. He visits trade shows,
festivals, schools and community centres to give
demonstrations and advice. The local man has also
been developing a pilot community healthy gardening
project with the HSE |
