A CARGO ship turned
luxury cruise liner sailed into Greencastle last
week bringing 550 passengers and crew to the North
West.
The 'Princess Daphne' is a 55 year old lady of the
sea that worked as a cargo ship before her
reincarnation as a cruise ship. Princess Daphne had
a refit in 2008 and the ship has has the added
distinction of having the largest cabins found on a
cruise ship today. The ship sailed from Dublin
before spending a day in Greencastle on its way to
Stornoway, Isle of Lewis and on to Germany.

Visitors were treated
to VIP hospitality as they reached the shore were
welcomed by staff from the Derry Visitor and
Convention Bureau who provided them with literature,
maps and information about the surrounding areas.
Derry Visitor and Convention Bureau chief executive
Catherine O’Connor said: "I welcome the positive
financial impact (the ship's visit) has on the
region, benefiting local businesses such as tour
guides, attractions, cafes, retailers and coach
companies."
The Cruise North West initiative - a partnership
between Derry City Council, Londonderry Port and
Harbour Commissioners, the Loughs Agency and Derry
Visitor and Convention Bureau - was set up to
attract cruise business to the region.
