MacLochlainn praises culture win 19.07.10

MAYOR of Buncrana Cllr Padraig MacLochlainn has paid tribute to the people of Derry and the organisers of their successful bid to named ‘UK City of Culture 2013’.
Cllr MacLochlainn, who is also deputy mayor of Donegal, said the people of Buncrana and Inishowen were delighted for the city.
“The community in Buncrana and Inishowen are absolutely thrilled for our nearest neighbours and their worthy achievement of being named ‘City of Culture 2013’. Indeed Buncrana Town Council actively supported Derry’s campaign to be awarded this title," said Cllr MacLochlainn.
“With Derry being such a short distance from our town we look forward to joining in the festivities and celebrating with our neighbours. We look forward to the continued partnership of our towns for the mutual benefits of all the people in this part of Ireland.”
Celebrations begin as Derry is named City of Culture 2013
Meanwhile, Senator Cecilia Keaveney said the 2013 event would provide a "huge boost to the entire North West".
"This was a title that many people worked hard to achieve and I commend everyone who contributed to the success of the bid. In some respects the work begins now. There is now a real goal, which is to sell the secret of the North West to the many thousands of people that will be attracted into the region.
"It is a unique chance that I know all the agencies involved particularly in tourism but also in employment must rise to. We will see a return for Derry and Donegal. The scale of that success will match the strength of continued efforts made now post the success of this bid," she added.
