Crash tributes reach over 33,000 20.07.10

A FACEBOOK book of condolences set up following the crash that claimed the lives of eight Inishowen men has already received more than 33,000 posts.
The tributes, posted locally and from all around the world, have been growing in number following the worst ever road accident in the history of the State.
Buncrana Town Mayor, Cllr Pádraig Mac Lochlainn described the 'Remembrance for Donegal Crash Victims' page as a "wonderful heartfelt tribute".
"This page reads like an online book of condolences. It is evidence of the true nature of Irish people at home and abroad. The tributes are from people across the island of Ireland and overseas. I know that the families will take great heart from this huge demonstration of love and solidarity in these very difficult times for them.
"Over the last week, I heard stories of local people receiving calls and emails from their friends and relatives all over, expressing their deepest concern and sympathy with the families and the people back home. I myself received so many messages of support from councils and politicians all over Ireland. It is a reminder that often in moments of the greatest adversity, the true good nature of our people is evident."
Meanwhile, Senator Cecilia Keaveney has asked Health Minister Mary Harney to prioritise funding for counselling services in Inishowen following the car crash that claimed eight lives.
"This has been traumatic for very many people both directly and indirectly involved. It is vital that there is a swift and financially-supported response in the form of counselling services for those who come forward," said Senator Keaveney.
"There will be an ongoing need to be met as the shock wears off and some people's ability to cope with the reality is challenged.
"I have been in touch with Minister for Health, Mary Harney in relation to ensuring that existing services are supported but that the needs are met and whatever funding that entails is found."
She said the tragedy was of an "historic scale" and the Government response had to match that.
"The Minister has been very positive in her feedback and I will be pressing this issue to ensure that all those who seek help get it and others can be encouraged along the path of reaching out for assistance."
