Drive to attract Scots to Donegal

A BIG drive to attract
more Scottish tourists to Donegal will begin this
week in Glasgow.
A variety of groups from the county who will travel
to Glasgow, met with Tourism Minister Mary Hanafin
during her visit to the county on Friday.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney, who was also present, said
the minister was clear that each county had a
responsibility to sell itself.
"Minister Hanafin stressed that the Government would
not be drawing up a special plan to sell Donegal.
She said if we could not sell ourselves how could
anyone else do it. "Her point was simple and clear:
if we try to help ourselves she and her department
will assist us in every way she can. |

Senator Keaveney said
Ms Hanafin acknowledged that Donegal's message that
the county was good value was being heard.
"We just have to persist so that those who have a
positive experience sell that message back too."
The Moville-based senator said the issue of regional
airports was also raised with the minister.
"Obviously, we did not let her go without raising
the issue again about access and the need for the
retention of the PSOs (Public Service Obligations)
for Donegal and Derry Airports.
"It was gratifying that she indicated to those
present that access was an issue that I have
regularly raised with her and her Cabinet
colleagues, and that she would continue to
underscore when PSO and transport issues were at the
Cabinet table." |
