Man on handgun charge
changes plea

A MAN charged with the unlawful possession of a
handgun and ammunition in Inishowen earlier this
year has changed his plea to not guilty.
Car salesman John Moran (52) of Serpentine Avenue,
Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, appeared at Carndonagh
District Court yesterday charged in connection with
an incident in which gardai were allegedly
threatened with a firearm as they broke up a row
outside a rural pub.
The charge relates to a fracas between two groups of
people outside the Orchard Bar, Gleneely, Carndonagh,
around 12.30am on April 5. |
The defendant
indicated, at an earlier hearing, that he intended
to plead guilty to the charge.
However, defence solicitor, Frank Dorrian, yesterday
told the court his client was changing his plea to
not guilty.

because the prosecution
needed more time to interview a number of witnesses,
some of whom were living outside the jurisdiction.
Judge Seamus Hughes agreed to relax the defendant's
bail conditions and said he did not have to sign on
at Buncrana garda station every Saturday and Sunday
as previously ordered.
The case was adjourned to Buncrana District Court on
September 21, for service of the book of evidence. |
