Vote for Ella's Google doodle
19.01.10
A FIFTH class pupil
from Scoil Íosagáin, Buncrana, is hoping you'll give
her your vote in a national art competition. Ten
year old Ella O’Hagan has reached the national
finals of a school art competition organised by
internet giant Google. From thousands of entries
across primary and secondary schools, Ella is down
to the last twenty in her age category. Votes can be
cast for Ella at

Users of Google will be familiar with its iconic
logo while on special occasions the company replaces
the logo with a doodle to mark an important
festival, anniversary or event. For the second year,
Google has organised a schools competition, seeking
doodles and this year the title was ‘My Future’.
Ella’s doodle was judged by a panel of expert judges
including Katy Fitzpatrick, who is the education
curator at Dublin City Gallery in Hugh Lane and Beth
Gormley, who is the events officer at the Science
Gallery in Trinity College Dublin. |

Ella’s entry has
already passed a series of judging rounds. Only six
entries were allowed per school. Following the
closing date, the entries were judged and reduced to
320 regional finalists. These 320 were further
reduced to 80 national finalists. The national
finalists are now open to the public vote. Proving
that artistic talent runs in the family, Ella’s
older sister, Orla managed to reach the last 320 of
the competition last year. So far, Ella has managed
to go one better and she is now hoping to go all the
way.
Ella’s doodle is entitled ‘Never Ending Fun’. |
"In the future the
world will be more technical, fun, space-like and
better and I hope it will be a nice place to live,"
said the excited schoolgirl.
The winner in each age group will win a laptop
computer and the chance to have their doodle
selected as the one used on the internet for one day
in March. You can vote to make Ella's dream come
true at
