INISHOWEN Rugby Club president John Merritt has
thanked everyone who voted for them in the Kelloggs
Field of Dreams competition. The club lost out on
the overall prize of €100K but still came away from
the competition €10,000 better off.
“To reach the final 4 out of 502 was a great
achievement and we are proud of how well the club
has done. We have had amazing support from the
people of Inishowen and all across Ulster. The Field
of Dreams was a great experience for us,” he said.
“The competition has allowed us to really raise the
profile of Inishowen rugby and we will continue to
move forward with our plan for a new pitch in Carn.
While we didn’t win in the end, we have been
extremely heartened by how many people supported our
bid. Many locals put in a great effort for us and we
are very grateful for that.”
Backed by TV presenter Tracey Piggot, a group of
eight Inishowen rugby representatives made their way
to RTE Studios in Dublin last Friday evening. The
result was announced at 5.30pm in a pre-recorded
programme which aired during the Late Late Show
almost five hours later. |

Members of Inishowen Rugby Club
celebrate the Kellogg's Field of Dreams runners-up
prize of €10,000 with their ambassador Tracey Piggot. |
“I have to say we were
treated really well by RTE and we had a great time
despite the result,” John said.
John revealed that the club would use much of its
€10,000 winnings to cover the costs of the Field of
Dreams campaign.
Paying tribute to the successful Kilglass Gaels,
John said the Roscommon club deserved their victory
after selling a whopping 27,000 boxes of Kellogg’s
cornflakes in the past few months. The President
also revealed that the Inishowen Rugby Club still
has a large number of Cornflakes in storage.
“We intend to go around the doors and offer some
great bargains in Kellogg’s cornflakes very soon!”
John said with a smile. |
