THE new location of the
Inishowen Tourism office, in the Carn Public
Services Centre, sparked controversy at the recent
Electoral Area meeting of Donegal County Council in
the town. Councillors Bernard McGuinness and Charlie
McConalogue claimed tourists were struggling to find
the new centre while Cllr Padraig MacLochalinn said
it was proving to be a success. “It’s an absolute
disgrace that the new office has a sign with a piece
of paper on a wall. We need to have proper signs
with Celtic print to let people know where the
Tourist Office is. Strangers coming into the town
can’t find the new office and people in Carn feel
the same way,” said Cllr McGuinness.
Echoing those sentiments, Cllr McConalogue said
tourists were left perplexed by the location of the
Carn Inishowen Tourism office.
“Tourists have been asking where the new office is?
And unless they’ve been following our local papers
they wouldn’t know. It should be located in the
centre of Carn and shopkeepers are telling me that
visitors don’t know where it is. Inishowen Tourism
is a facility which needs to be promoted better to
bring more people here,” he said.
Accusing his colleagues of being parochial, Cllr
MacLochlainn said the two offices - Carn and
Buncrana - were working extremely well.
“Inishowen Tourism has been a raging success with
numbers of visitors on the up. Let’s stop being
negative and get behind them. Inishowen Tourism has
played a blinder and let’s not take them down over a
few signs. Stop having a go!” he said.
