BUNCRANA councillors
have backed an emergency motion by the former mayor
that could bring “a flagship broadband project” to
the peninsula.
Cllr Lee Tedstone proposed, at Tuesday’s meeting,
that the Council throw their weight behind Project
Kelvin.
Project Kelvin is a multi-million pound project
bringing a Transatlantic cable to Derry. The cable
will bring faster and better communications to the
North West.
Cllr Tedstone called for a liaison with the key
stakeholders to deliver a ‘spur’ from the Kelvin
ring to Inishowen.
He said this would deliver a state-of-the-art
broadband project to the whole Inishowen area and
would bring huge ‘commercial and social benefits’ to
the area.
The council agreed unanimously to support the motion
and it was pointed out that it would require a
degree of co-funding.
Initially, it was feared the Inishowen area would
not benefit from Project Kelvin, which was intended
to link-up with Letterkenny. |
