08.11.10
LABOUR is 'confident'
it can return a seat for the party in the Donegal
North East constituency including Inishowen.
Councillor Jimmy Harte has been formally selected as
the Labour candidate who will run in the next
general election.
He was officially ratified as the party's candidate
at a well-attended selection meeting last week
chaired by Labour MEP Alan Kelly who pledged his
support for the heart campaign.
Cllr Harte said he was 'honoured' to be officially
selected as the Labour Party candidate for Donegal
North East and said he was confident he could return
a seat for the area.
"This election will define a generation. The time
has come for honest politics and strong
representation at Dáil level in Donegal North East.
Too much is at stake, and as the Labour Party
candidate for the constituency, I am dedicated to
being part of Eamon Gilmore's team in the next
government where I believe I can effect genuine
change at local and national level." |

Cllr Jimmy Harte, formally signs the
papers confirming his candidacy for the Labour Party
with Alan Kelly MEP, as Inishowen electoral area
representative, Cllr Martin Farren from Moville
looks on. |
The Letterkenny-based
candidate said there was a growing momentum for the
Labour Party in the county.
"The consistently high showing in the polls of Eamon
Gilmore, coupled with a palpable demand for change
among the public, shows that the Labour Party's
message is resonating with people on the ground in
Donegal. It is now a three-horse race and I look
forward to the challenge ahead," he added. |
