Buncrana's new one-way system 30.07.10

WORK is expected to begin this week on the implementation of a new one-way traffic system for Buncrana.
The plans, announced last year, will see a number of streets going one-way after studies carried out by the local town council found that they aren’t wide enough to accommodate free flowing two-way traffic and on-street parking.
The study was promised after the introduction of the pay and display parking system in 2007.
One-way traffic flow will be introduced on Nailor’s Row, Castle Avenue, St Columba’s Avenue, Rockfield Terrace, Crana Road, Church Street, Grianán Park, Ferris Lane, Maginn Avenue and Millbrae.

Local gardaí have been consulted and have approved of the changes, while the public was also given the opportunity to view the proposed changes and make submissions on them.

Cllr. Crossan said: “This was brought in by Executive Function which means it did not emanate with councillors although we were asked to comment on it.
“People don’t seem to be taking all that much notice of the proposed scheme but I am sure once it starts being implemented we shall hear plenty about it.”
“I would have a query about some aspects of it especially around the Lake of Shadows Hotel which will mean a major diversion for someone trying to get to the Main Street.”
“But the scheme became necessary when it was found that the streets were not broad enough to take the traffic after the new parking restrictions came in,” he added. (Inishowen Independent)
