Physios launch Treadmill-A-Thon
15.03.10
TWO physiotherapy
students are organising a unique Treadmill-A-Thon in
Carndonagh to raise money for a trip to Africa.
Friends Catherine Warren from Gleneely, Inishowen,
and Claire McClintock from Mullenan, Derry hope to
raise enough sponsorship to become physiotherapy
assistants at a hospital in Kenya this summer. They
will also donate half the proceeds of their unique
marathon to the physiotherapy unit at Carndonagh
Hospital.
Catherine and Claire, who are third year students of
Physiotherapy at Glasgow Caledonian University,
their families and friends have now launched the
'Helping Hands to Kenya' campaign to raise money for
their trip.
They need to raise enough for accommodation and
food, 24hr support while in Kenya, flights and
airport transfers, insurance and some supplies to
take to the hospital.
Their Treadmill-A-Thon will take place at Carndonagh
Gym on Sunday, March 28, from 10am. Teams of walkers
and runners are busy raising sponsorship for a
marathon in the gym's four treadmill machines. |
|
"Six people per team
walking or running just over four miles each will
cover the 26.2 miles needed for a classic marathon,"
explained Catherine.
"I am really excited about the possibility of this
placement (in Kenya) and the experiences it will
provide. I know it will be a rewarding and
educational experience." |
'Treadmillers' and
sponsors alike will also be entered into a prize
draw on March 28 for a range of prizes donated by
local businesses.
Back in Glasgow, Catherine and Claire’s friends are
also running hosting a simultaneous Treadmill-A-Thon
to raise sponsorship for the pair.
If you would like to sponsor a 'treadmiller', or
would like to go the distance yourself please get in
touch with Catherine’s mum, Marianne Ashcroft on 087
249 7812 who is co-ordinating the teams. |
