A cultural project for the European Year of Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion 2010 will be showcased in Moville later this week.
The 'Then and Now' project involving schoolchildren and older people from the area will be showcased in St Eugene's Hall on Friday, November 12 at midday.
The project, to be launched by community chef, Brian McDermott, has been organised by the Moville and District Family Resource Centre. It will showcase the work of children from the three participating schools in Moville, namely, St. Columb’s N.S, Gaelscoil Cois Feabhail and Scoil Eoghain.
Moville children who took part in the 'Then and Now' project to be showcased on Friday, November 12.
The event will take the form of an exhibition, a live performance by some of the young people, and the screening of the 'Then and Now' DVD which documents the activities of the workshop including stories of days gone by in the Moville area, of homes before electricity, of subsistence farming and of travel between Glasgow and Moville as told by locals, Mary Thompson, Bridget Moir, and Patrick McCartney. The stories were recounted through discussions with the children in each of the schools.
According to the Moville and District Family Resource Centre, the aim of the 'Then and Now' project was to highlight issues of poverty in 2010, and to "discuss these issues in an accessible and socially relevant way, through the involvement of older people from the community and in art workshops in drawing, collage, photography and drama".
The centre thanked all involved with the intergenerational project for their enthusiasm and participation.
