Pedal pushing for charity 07.06.10

by Caoimhinn Barr, Inishowen Independent

A NEW Inishowen cycling club is already enjoying life in the fast lane after raising an impressive €1580 for charity in its first ever race last weekend.
Saddle Rock Cycling Club was formed only six weeks ago after bike enthusiasts from the Carn, Malin and Glengad areas got together to form the peninsula’s newest group of pedal pushers.
In its inaugural official outing last Sunday the fledgling club attracted a huge field of more than eighty cyclists to the G&S Costcutter Carndonagh bike race.
The gala event, which saw cyclists from all ages zig-zagging across Inishowen’s highways and byways last weekend, boosted the coffers of the Donegal Hospice, a vital care institution, which relies heavily on voluntary contributions every year.
Members of the Saddle Rock Cycling Club get on their marks for their first race.
Cyclists from the North Pole, Foyle and Four Masters Cycling Clubs contributed towards a successful day for Saddle Rock, who hope to enjoy many more such days.
With seventeen budding members, Saddle Rock Cycling Club is now looking forward to its first summer on the roads of Inishowen. Members have a training outing every Sunday and anyone wishing to join should call 087 2758818.
