MORE than 70,000 has
been allocated for repairs to sea walls at Inch and
Fahan.
A total of 54,000 has been granted to strengthen an
existing wall and build a new wall at Inch Island
Causeway.
Meanwhile, 18,000 has been allocated to repair a
collapsed sea wall at Fahan Marina.
Donegal North East TD, Deputy Niall Blaney yesterday
received confirmation about the flood relief works
in his constituency from Office of Public Works
Minister Martin Mansergh.
As a result of the unprecedented wet weather we
experienced before Christmas, the Government is
providing additional funding to the OPW for flood
mitigation measures, said Deputy Blaney.
Dr Martin Mansergh has informed me that funding
allocated under a minor works scheme is
significantly increased since last year. Last year
some 2.1 million was allocated, in comparison to
6.7 million for this year.
Deputy Blaney said Donegal County Council could
immediately proceed with the approved measures at
Inch and Fahan to reduce the level of risk in the
communities affected.
The application assessment process is still ongoing
and local authorities may make further applications
under the scheme during the year. All applications
that meet the criteria will be considered in regard
to the overall resources remaining, added the
Fianna Fαil TD. |
