Swilly yacht season underway
04.05.10
LOUGH Swilly Yacht Club
launched its 2010 boating season on Sunday with an
invitation for more people to dip their toes and
enjoy "the thrills" of sailing.
Opening Day included a lunch for new and
long-standing members at the clubhouse in Fahan
against the backdrop of the Swilly and music by
local traditional musicians.
The day also gave the club the opportunity to launch
their newly-purchased Pico dinghies that will be
used for the 'Learn to Sail' courses to be run later
this summer.
Welcoming those gathered, Lough Swilly Yacht Club
Commodore Paul McSorley said:
"We are delighted at the turn-out today and welcome
all, in particular our guests, Malcolm Houston, RNLI,
Rosin McAnallen, Ocean Youth Trust and Karena
Hanley, Rathmullan Sail Club.
"We look forward to a busy sailing season with our
series of races, as well as open events, Tory
Island, Foyle Days, and Swilly Worlds Regatta." |

New this season to the
Fahan club will be ‘Women on Water’ - WoW Day. This
is an initiative started by the Irish Sailing
Association to encourage more female participation
in the sport.
Meanwhile, LSYC will host an Open Evening on
Thursday, May 13, when its facilities will be
available for anyone interested in trying sailing.
"So bring friends, colleagues and give them a chance
to enjoy the thrills of sailing on this spectacular
lough," added Paul McSorley.
Lough Swilly Yacht Club has more than 250 members
from the North West cross border region. It caters
for sailors and marine leisure enthusiasts and has a
full sailing programme from April through to
December. New Members are always welcome.
Key LSYC events: Tory Island Race - June 5; Foyle
Days - June 12 and 13; WoW Day - June 20; Melmore -
July 10 and Swilly World Regatta - July 31 to August
