DONEGAL County Manager
Michael McLoone was due to meet with local union
officials last week to discuss council manning
levels in Buncrana.
Mr McLoone was speaking at the monthly meeting in
response to a question from Cllr Peter McLaughlin
who remarked that Buncrana Town Council was four
groundsmen down. |
Cllr McLaughlin said
none of the groundsmen had been replaced but that
another engineer had been appointed.
He said he was not arguing about this appointment
but said an engineer would not be cutting the grass
or similar jobs.
Mr McLoone said there had been a moratorium on
hiring for some time but that the Public Service
Agreement had been ratified recently. He said he
intended to hold a meeting with unions to discuss
the entire issue of council staffing.
Mr McLoone said they were facing a ‘whole new
process’ and councils would have to look at
situations where jobs could be replaced, where
people could be redeployed and all other aspects. |

He added that if the
various councils in the county found they could not
redeploy or replace, then they would have to talk to
the unions again to see what could be organised.

Council this Thursday, July 1, 2010. |
