Plaza hosts Borderland exhibition
23.11.09
STORIES, photographs
and film footage about life as it is lived along the
Donegal-Derry border will form part of a public art
exhibition launched later this week in Buncrana. The
Borderland exhibition will include the experiences
of more than 50 local participants as documented in
a series of audio-visual workshops, oral
testimonies, photography and archive research.
The week-long cross-border exhibition, created by
Buncrana-based visual arts organisation North-55,
will be opened by Inez McCormack. Inez was the first
female president of the Irish Congress of Trade and
currently chairs the Participation and Practice of
Rights project. She was awarded the Woman of the
Year (NI) accolade in 2008. |
North-55 is run by
director Marie Barrett and its event director is Dr
Kathryn O'Callaghan. Borderland follows on from the
success of the group's Remnant public art project
documenting the rise and fall of the textiles
industry in the region.
Borderland is supported by the Arts Council of
Ireland, Donegal County Council and the Inishowen

Partnership. It
presents large-scale photographs taken by
participants around the border area of Derry and
Donegal. Visitors to the exhibition can also listen
to audio testimonies chronicling the border theme.
Meanwhile, a North-55 film, B-239, will also be
screened at the launch which takes place this
Friday, November 27, in The Plaza, Main Street,
Buncrana from 6pm-8pm. The exhibition is free and
will continue its run at The Plaza until December 4.
