STAFF at Buncrana's
Social Welfare office are set to begin the big move
into their new multi-million euro offices at
Ardaravan Square. The completion deadline for
construction was last Friday, October 16 with the
assignment of staff beginning October 27.
"The staff in the various offices in Buncrana have
won awards for their ability to deliver on their
work under the sub-standard conditions they had been
based in. It will be a huge change for them to move
into the purpose-built facility and get settled into
the long-awaited improvement in working
environment," said Senator Cecilia Keaveney.
"There is only going to be a brief delay between
staff moving and it being open to the public. By
mid-November it is hoped that the move will be
completed and the office open to the public. I'm
sure they will also hope by then that any teething
troubles will be resolved too."
A total of 118 posts in the Department of Social and
Family Affairs are set to be relocated to Buncrana
under the Government’s decentralisation programme.
To date, 86 staff have been assigned with a further
eight staff taking up positions in the coming weeks.
The remaining staff will be assigned next year.
Meanwhile, Senator Keaveney wished the staff and
clients a smooth move. "I commend all those working
in Social Welfare in all sections in Buncrana for
their delivery of service in the past but also the
hassle that they will face in these weeks, given the
nature that any move entails. May their troubles be
small now and may the clients that use the offices
continue to gain a respectful, resourceful response
to their needs in a more pleasant setting for all,"
she added. |
