Keaveney to champion youths in Europe 30.01.09

INISHOWEN-based senator Cecilia Keaveney has been elected vice-president of the European Youth and Sport Committee.
Senator Keaveney received the endorsement in Strasbourg this week at a plenary session of the Council of Europe.
She will now take particular responsibility for the youth aspect of the committee's work while Portugal's former deputy prime minister of Portugal, Mr José Luís Arnaut will take the presidency and will focus on the sporting aspect of the group's work.
Speaking in Strasbourg, Senator Keaveney said she felt honoured at her colleagues' endorsement after one year on the committee.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney "I am already being approached by youth organisations to help me familiarise myself with work ongoing at a European level. I know that youth organisations throughout Ireland will also assist me in prioritising the issues and will inform me of, not only problems, but also what is going well and what improvements can be achieved."
Senator Keaveney said her new challenge will link into her current political work. "What I learn from the opportunities that may be presented in the coming months, I will positively relate to the youth of Donegal.
"Indeed, I will encourage them to engage with me in this process and ensure that Donegal youth have their voices heard in the European agenda," she added.
