Car still on the rocks
22.05.09
A CAR that mysteriously
ended up on the rocks in Greencastle on Monday is
still there five days later. The old-model
Volkswagen Polo hatchback was first spotted by
people in the fishing village on Monday morning. But
nobody is clear about how it ended up there or who
owns it. It is understood the vehicle was hot-wired
before being driven or pushed towards the sea. |

However, Garda Sergeant
Danny Devlin yesterday told InishowenNews.com that
nobody had reported it stolen nor, has anyone rung
Gardaí to claim it.
It therefore appears to fall under the "abandoned"
category and thus comes under the jurisdiction of
Donegal County Council's Environment Section. |
A Council spokesperson
told InishowenNews.com yesterday that nothing had
been reported to the local authority as of 3pm
yesterday (Thursday).
However, the spokesperson said the Council's
Environment Section in Carndonagh would look into
the incident immediately and a litter warden would
be sent to investigate. |

The red
1990-registered two-door vehicle has become a bit of
a local attraction. However, some people have
described it as "derelict looking" and "an eyesore"
that is clearly visible from the main road. Others
say it poses a hazard to local children. It is
easily accessible from the nearby green and despite
the steep angle at which it is wedged into the
rocks, some local youngsters have tried getting into
the car. |
