Four-week trek for CF sufferers
29.07.09
THE people of Inishowen
are being urged to cheer on a charity walker on his
solo 500-mile trek from Malin Head to Mizen Head.
Freelance journalist Emmet Ryan is undertaking the
28-day walk for Cystic Fibrosis sufferers and starts
at Ireland's most northerly point this Saturday,
August 1.
Emmet, 28, from Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin, is looking
for free bed and lodgings along the route to Cork
each night, but is happy to report "he's sorted" as
far as Inishowen is concerned.
“This walk is going to be a tough slog but I’ve fond
memories from previous visits to Donegal and I know
the people there will provide a great welcome.” |

Cystic Fibrosis is a
genetic disorder which affects the internal organs,
especially the lungs. Ireland has the highest
proportion of sufferers in the world, with 1-in-19
of all Irish people carrying the CF gene.
“This is a cause that touches so many Irish
families. With this walk I’m hoping to help raise
both funding and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis
Association of Ireland and the great work they do,”
he added. Emmet has previously completed four
marathons for the charity and has picked up his fair
share of injuries along the way. CFAI development
manager and fundraiser Martin Cahill said: “We wish
Emmet well on his venture and hope that by now
|
he knows the correct
usage of blister plasters.
“Such events, like this walk, are very important to
the CFAI, as we are entirely dependent on voluntary
fundraising and donations to provide a range of
services for the CF community in Ireland." You can
