by Simon McGeady, Inishowen Independent
AN BORD Pleanála are to hold an oral hearing into
the Moville/Greencastle Sewerage Scheme. The hearing
will take place at the Carlton Redcastle Hotel on
Tuesday, June 30 and Wednesday, July 1. Notification
of the hearing was posted on pleanala.ie last week.
Representatives of the planning appeals authority
will hear the case for and against the scheme, as
put by representatives of Donegal County Council as
well as those people from the local area who have
made written submissions to An Bord Pleanála
objecting to plan in its current form.
During the two days of the hearing, those on each
side of the debate will have the opportunity to
cross-examine each others case. |

The An Bord Pleanála
representatives will also visit the proposed site
for the treatment plant, in Carnagarve, as well as
the location identified for the pumping station and
outflow pipe at Lafferty’s Lane.
Enda Craig, spokesperson for Campaign For a Clean
Estuary, which oppose the scheme, said he hoped to
persuade a French based Oceanographer to travel to
Redcastle to speak at the hearing.
“Our backs are against the wall. We will be up
against the finest experts at Donegal County
Council’s disposal and so we have to go out and find
our own experts. But the local residents are happy
to have been given this opportunity to stand up and
fight for what we believe in, because the beach
between Moville and Greencastle is the only asset of
value that people in the area have.” said Mr Craig.
Should An Bord Pleanála rule in the Local
Authority’s favour, Mr Craig suggested CFCE would
take their case to Brussels in a bid to prevent the
scheme going ahead. |
