City of Derry Drama Fest kicks off 06.03.09

THE 29th City of Derry Drama Festival kicks off tonight with players from all over Ireland taking part in the week-long event.
Among the highlights of the festival will be performances by the Bangor Drama Club with Sam Sheppard's 'True West', while John B Keane's 'Sive' will be performed by Sligo's Cloonacool Players. Bernard Farrell's play 'I do not like thee Dr Fell' will be performed by the Lurig Drama Group while Brian Friel's 'Faith Healer' will be performed by the Bradan Players from Co Kildare.
The Lifford Players also return to this year's festival with Gerard Healy's 'Black Stranger' while Martin McDonagh's 'Pillowman' will be performed by the Knocknaconnaragh Amateur Drama Society from Galway. Productions of works by Owen McCafferty, Neil Simon and Martin McDonagh will also feature.
Derry Mayor Cllr Gerard Diver welcomed drama lovers across the city, Donegal and wider North West to catch one or two of the shows at the festival venue, The Waterside Theatre.
