Eddie Fullerton murder
"breakthrough"
10.06.09
THE arrest of two men
this week in connection with the murder of Buncrana
Sinn Féin councillor Eddie Fullerton 18 years ago
has been described as a "significant breakthrough"
The two men have since been released. Police
arrested a 41-year-old man in the North West on
Tuesday at the request of Gardaí. A second man, who
is 45-years-old, presented himself at a police
station in County Antrim the same morning.
Cllr Fullerton was shot dead by the UFF at his home
in Cockhill Park, Buncrana, Co Donegal in May 1991.
Sinn Féin MP Martin McGuinness said the arrests were
down to the persistence and perseverance of Eddie
Fullerton's family who refused to "buy the lies and
have campaigned tirelessly for the truth".
“Eddie Fullerton was gunned down in his Buncrana
home 18 years ago. The loyalist murder gang
responsible were allowed to escape and kill again.
The Fullerton family have been badly let down by
both policing systems North and South in the years
since," said Mr McGuinness. |
“Despite all of the
blockages to justice, the Fullertons have maintained
their dignity and brought their campaign for the
truth to every forum in Ireland and beyond. It is my
hope that these arrests will mark the beginning of
the emergence of the truth surrounding Eddie's
murder and the subsequent failure of the Guards and
the RUC to rigorously |

pursue his killers.”
Meanwhile, Buncrana Sinn Féin Councillor Padraig
MacLochlainn added:
“I have spoken with the Fullerton family today.
After all of the let downs and set backs they have
received in their campaign for the truth surrounding
Eddie’s murder, they are hopeful that these arrests
represent a significant breakthrough.
“Sinn Féin will continue to stand
shoulder-to-shoulder with the Fullerton family and
provide them with every support and encouragement
until they receive justice and establish the truth
into the circumstances before and after Eddie’s
murder.” |
