CARNDONAGH Community School student Anita Davenport
has been shortlisted in the final of a competition
to design the doodle that will be hosted on the
Google website on St Patrick’s Day.
Culdaff girl Anita won the Donegal competition for
first, second and third year secondary school
students and joins 100 other finalists from across
the country in a public vote to decide the overall
winner. |

“I did it in 15
minutes,” an excited Anita, a former student at
Bocan National School, explained last week. “I did
it at home but on behalf of the school.” The overall
winner will win a €10,000 technology grant for her
or his school. “I’ll be getting a goodie bag and a
framed version of my design from Google, as well as
an invite to their headquarters in Dublin.”
Proud dad Brian said Anita has a big interest in art
and design. “She’s a very good scholar, much more
interested in school that I ever was,” he quipped.

music – where she plays the flute and accordion –
among her hobbies. |
“I only got the word
that I’d got through last week, so I’ve been trying
to get my friends to vote early and vote often,”
Anita said. |

Four other local
students were shortlisted for the competition,
namely, Scoil Mhuire students Orla O’Hagan, Jessica
McKinney, Kirstin O’Reagan and Lucy McGrory.
Unfortunately, the girls weren’t successful in being
shortlisted for the national finals but you can cast
your vote for Anita’s design at

Voting ends at midnight on Monday next, 16 February. |
